IT'S A GREAT DAY TO BE A BULLET AND A BEE BEE!
As we prepare for the start of the 2020-2021 school year, the athletic department wants to provide student-athletes and their families with the most up to date information so they can ensure they meet all requirements for athletic participation. At the most recent IHSA Board of Directors meeting, it was decided that IHSA By-law 2.150, requiring students to have a physical examination every year in order to participate in sports will not be waived.
Therefore, families will need to start coordinating physical examinations for their children if they want to participate in sports within WCUSD #15 this school year. As a reminder, a student-athlete’s physical is good for one year and thirty days (395) from the date of their pervious exam. It is imperative that they get a physical scheduled as soon as possible to ensure that there is not lapse in coverage, and then they will not be able to participate in their desired sport. If you have specific questions regarding the expiration date for your son or daughter’s physical, you can contact their head coach and they can provide you with that information.
If you if have a primary care physician, it is recommended you contact them first for any physical needs. We understand that there are some physicians who may not be currently seeing patients for physicals; if that is the case for your child, you can visit one of the following Springfield Clinic Urgent Care locations and obtain a sports physical for $50.00:
1025 South 6th Street, Springfield, IL
2200 Wabash Ave, Springfield, IL
400 St. John’s Drive, Sherman, IL
1000 West Morton Ave, Jacksonville, IL.
We will continue to provide you with information regarding what sports and activities will look like for both the IESA and IHSA for the 2020-2021 school year as they become available. In the meantime, we wish you the best throughout the remainder of the summer and to remember that It’s Always Better to be a Bullet!
We are planning for what a return to school this fall will look like for students and staff. On June 23, we received guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education.
The mandates are as follows:
*Require use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including face coverings;
*Prohibit more than 50 individuals from gathering in one space;
*Require social distancing be observed, as much as possible;
*Require that schools conduct symptom screenings and temperature checks or require that individuals self-certify that they are free of symptoms before entering school buildings; and
*Require an increase in schoolwide cleaning and disinfection.
We fully expect plans to evolve over time, but your responses will help guide our planning to safely reopen schools this fall.
This survey will be open from June 25 to July 1. Please submit a form for each of your school-age children.
WCUSD#15's goal is to open school in-person and to communicate the Return To Learn Plan on or before July 24.
Thank you in advance to taking the 3 minute survey.
Tip Reedy - WCUSD#15 Superintendent
WHAT WILL SCHOOL LOOK LIKE IN THE FALL
I want to encourage parents and families to be prepared for three types of school in August (In-person “normal school”; Remote Learning School; Hybrid School.) In the next three weeks school districts are supposed to be receiving guidance and direction from the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). I believe schools are made for social connections not social distancing.
It is with a heavy heart that I share this message with our community about a recent tragic accident that resulted in the death of Brody Wilson, a sophomore at Williamsville High School. Brody grew up in our community and was the son of Steve and Carla Wilson. He was one of five siblings and a very outgoing young man. Brody was active in student life at WHS and participated in soccer, fine arts, and band. Brody was a hard worker who loved everyone. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Steve and Carla Wilson and their family.
SES has re-scheduled our kindergarten screening and registration for the 2020-2021 School year for July 16th-17th and again on July 21st-22nd. We have modified the times and are asking for parents to sign up for a new appointment slot using this link. Please see this document regarding what to bring to the screening/registration as well as some other FAQ's.
